James Opot

James fondly recalls attending church with his mother and brother as a child, but it was not until high school that he came to personal repentance and faith in Jesus Christ; Since then, he has experienced God’s transformative power, recognizing that he is a sinner justified by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, saved not by his own works but by God’s sovereign grace.

After their wedding in 2018, James and his wife, Nyambura, began looking for a church closer to home and, through God’s providence, were drawn to Emmanuel Baptist Church by the faithful preaching of God’s Word and the visible work of the Holy Spirit in the congregation. James was baptised there and later had the privilege of helping plant North Point Baptist Church, where he’s been a member since its founding. He initially served as a deacon for children and subsequently appointed by the congregation to serve as a lay elder. He embraces this calling with humility as he shepherds God’s people and points them to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Off duty, when not spending time with his lovely wife and their two wonderful children, you’ll probably find him tackling a DIY project, tinkering with something that needs fixing, or savouring a well-brewed cup of coffee while connecting with others.

His professional experience has spanned a range of roles, primarily in finance, supporting tech-driven startups, and, more recently, social impact initiatives.
